Using PdM Technologies for Evaluating Lubrication Condition
More than 80% of all rotating equipment in the world are running with rolling bearings lubricated with Oil or grease. For almost 90% of rolling bearings’ applications in Industry, grease is preferred lubricant. Unfortunately improper grease lubrication is a very common practice which leads to premature bearings defect and failure causing machines costly downtimes. Without knowledge and proper tools, It is difficult to determine lubricant state, when to grease, how to grease and when to stop greasing. Fortunately, predictive technologies and work processes are being successfully applied to monitor and optimize the lubrication condition. The use of IR Thermography, ultrasonic analysis, conventional vibration analysis and advanced vibration signal processing techniques will be discussed and compared in determining lubrication state and achieving optimum lubrication.
