SKF introduces new capability to customize super-precision bearings in small quantities

October 15, 2014 - SKF introduces a new capability to customize super-precision bearings in small quantities for delivery in just days throughout North America to meet the most demanding lead-time, performance, and/or productivity requirements.



SKF super-precision bearings ideally suit machine tool applications by integrating unique designs and materials enabling higher speeds and higher load-carrying capacities than standard bearings. Quick and timely customization offers advantages across the machine tool marketplace by allowing OEMs to meet particular customer requests and helping end-users in the aftermarket to avoid costly repairs and downtime should bearings need to be replaced.

SKF super-precision bearings are engineered to provide the necessary and critical high speeds, high running accuracy, high system rigidity, low heat generation, and low noise and vibration levels essential for optimized performance in the machine tool industry.  All customization services are centralized and expedited at SKF’s North Charleston, SC, production facility, where the custom solutions are developed, tested, and packed in a dedicated and controlled environment. All customized super-precision bearings are subject to exacting standards and backed by SKF’s full warranty support. 

Among the services, SKF can customize pre-loading of precision spindle bearings, modify angular contact and ball screw support bearings, convert rolling elements from standard bearing steel to ceramic balls for higher load capacity with low friction and heat characteristics, optimize greasing, grind notches, and substitute or redesign bearing cages, among many other capabilities.  In addition, SKF can develop special packaging, integrate unique markings, and provide measuring reports as requested.

Customization services can accommodate all types of SKF super-precision bearings with outside diameter sizes ranging from 40mm to 300mm in any quantity and at any time.
