Suncor starts work on several maintenance projects

Calgary, AB – Suncor Energy has begun planned maintenance at its refineries in Edmonton, AB, and Sarnia, ON, and on one of the two oil sands upgraders at its oil sands operations near Fort McMurray, AB.


Calgary, AB – Suncor Energy has begun planned maintenance at its refineries in Edmonton, AB, and Sarnia, ON, and on one of the two oil sands upgraders at its oil sands operations near Fort McMurray, AB.

The work is part of ongoing maintenance programs designed to support safe, reliable operations.

About 600 employees and contractors will be involved in the work at Edmonton, which is scheduled to last about four weeks. About 1,000 will be involved in the work at Sarnia, which is scheduled to take place over about eight weeks. In Fort McMurray, about 1,500 will be involved in the maintenance work, which is scheduled to last about 11 weeks. During this period, the U1 complex will operate at reduced rates, while the company’s other upgrader (U2) is currently scheduled to continue normal operations.

Meanwhile, Suncor has resumed production at its Terra Nova oil field, located about 350 km southeast of St. John’s, NL, following completion of planned maintenance on the Terra Nova Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility. About 160 employees and contractors were involved in the work, which lasted about four weeks.
