Mountain View, CA – The Google Shopping for Suppliers pilot project was shut down by Google Inc. on June 20, 2014. After that date, the Supplier Center, Shopping for Suppliers product/company pages and related ads on Google.com no longer functioned. The site was launched in 2013 and was seen as a competitor for AmazonSupply.com, Amazon’s industrial source for online products, as well as for the online sales activities of major industrial distributors.
Earlier this year, Google Shopping for Suppliers had added a new category called mechanical components, including power transmission, fluid power and hose products, to the items it was selling online. These were an expansion of its electrical and electronics offerings, and test and measurement products. Products that had been listed under mechanical components included various type of bearings, clutches, seals, gears, transmission belts, pumps, pipe, valves, and fittings.
Google said it has no plans to release another Shopping for Suppliers-like product. Instead, it recommended that eligible customers consider Google Shopping and Google AdWords.
