“I am very proud and deeply honoured to receive this prestigious prize both personally but also on behalf of all SKF employees around the world,” said Johnstone. “For me, this award is a clear recognition of the fantastic journey that we have made together. My sincere thanks to the jury, but most off all I want to thank everyone in SKF for making this journey possible.”

The award is arranged by Sweden’s business magazine, Affärsvärlden, and is considered the most prestigious prize within the Swedish business environment and public sector.

There are a number of criteria: Besides the ability to provide positive results, the jury evaluates the leader’s strategic capability and the capability to engage employees in good times and difficult times. The jury, led by Claes Dahlbäck, former chairman and CEO for Investor, motivated the choice of Tom Johnstone with the following words:

“With a committed, clear and engaging leadership, the Leader of the Year 2013 has brought forward a traditional company to the position as undisputed world leader in its line of business.”

The award celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year. Former winners include Stefan Persson of H&M, Lars Renström of Alfa Laval and Staffan Jufors of Volvo Penta.
