Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) Foundation has announced several milestones to increase awareness of the industrial distribution industry in Canada through its major workforce development initiative, the Industrial Careers Pathway (ICP).

Together with more than 20 associations representing the industrial distribution channel and two regional development organizations, the PTDA Foundation-led ICP Partner Alliance is working to:

–Actively promote careers in the industrial distribution channel.
–Develop community college programs to teach business, technical and distribution basics to new and experienced employees.
–Help distributors and manufacturers enhance how they hire, train and promote.

Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont., became the first Canadian ICP pilot site in February 2005. Lead by Industry Champions from PTDA and ElectroFed Canada, the site has attracted strong support, including an Advisory Committee of more than 20 distributors and manufacturers of electrical, fluid power, power transmission and computer hardware products.

Committee members currently are hosting ‘Lunch and Learn’ events to promote the postgraduate certificate in Applied Sales and Management to current and pending graduates of Mohawk College technology programs for enrolment in Fall 2006.

An industry launch meeting held in September 2005 introduced British Columbia Institute of Technology and the ICP initiative to over 30 industrial distributors and manufacturers in the Greater Vancouver area. An Advisory Committee of distributors and manufacturers of plastics, electrical, power transmissions and motion control products began to review curriculum and outline the program at their first meeting in early December 2005.

The PTDA Foundation’s 2005 Fund Drive raised more than $191,300, with Canadian donations and gifts totalling over $17,000. As of Feb. 10, the 2006 Fund Drive has raised more than $64,500, with Canadian donations and gifts totalling almost $14,000.
