Chicago, IL — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its September 2005 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 11.9% as compared to sales for January through September 2004. Sales rose 6.9% over the previous month and went up 11.5% as compared to September 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables fell 2.3% over August 2005 and decreased 4.0% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 7.8 in September 2005, as compared to 8.0 in September 2004.

For September, the confidence level of Canadian distributors rose to 6.8 from 6.3 in August on a 10-point scale.

In September, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 10.8% as compared to sales for January through September 2004. Sales increased 1.7% over August and were up 11.1% as compared to September 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables increased 5.5% as compared over August 2005 and declined 1.6% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 8.7 in September, compared to 9.2 in September 2004.

For September, the confidence level of U.S. distributors declined to 6.5 from 6.7 in August on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 2.9% as compared to sales for January through September in 2004. Sales grew 4.3% over the previous month and were up 1.5% as compared to September 2004. As compared to August, sales of unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products increased. Sales of mounted bearings, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings decreased.

For September, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers fell to 5.2 from 5.3 in August on a 10-point scale.

In September, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 10.9% as compared to sales for January through September 2004. Sales decreased 1.1% over the previous month and were up 8.7% as compared to September 2004. As compared to August, sales of unmounted bearings, standard industrial motors and shaft couplings increased. Sales of mounted bearings, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, gear products, mechanical drive systems and other PT products, and clutches and brakes decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers rose 14.2% as compared to 2004. September orders were up 2.2% over August and grew 11.9% as compared to September 2004. Annualized sales to inventory ratio was 10.7 in September 2005 as compared to 9.8 September 2004.

For September, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers fell to 5.5 from 5.6 in August 2005 on a 10-point scale.
