Chicago, Ill. — The Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) has released its April 2005 trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products.

Canadian distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products rose 13.0% as compared to sales for January through April 2004. Sales increased 1.0% over the previous month and grew 16.5% as compared to April 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables increased 1.1% over March 2004 and decreased 1.8% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in both April 2004 and April 2005 was 7.9.

For April, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

In April, U.S. distributors’ year-to-date sales of PT/MC products were up 11.9% as compared to sales for January through April 2004. Sales decreased 3.2% over the previous month and increased 10.1% as compared to April 2004.

Days sales in accounts receivables were up 3.1% as compared to March 2005 and increased 2.5% as compared to the same month last year. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 9.3, compared to 8.7 in 2004.

For April, the confidence level of U.S. distributors rose from 6.5 in March to 6.7 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products gained 2.8% as compared to sales for January through April in 2004. Sales decreased 3.1% over the previous month and increased 2.1% as compared to April 2004.

As compared to March, sales of unmounted bearings, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of mounted bearings, variable speed drives, gear products, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products decreased.

For April, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers fell from 5.4 in March to 5.2 on a 10-point scale.

In April, U.S. manufacturers’ sales of PT/MC products increased 13.7% as compared to sales for January through April 2004. Sales decreased 3.2% over the previous month and grew 11.4% as compared to April 2004.

As compared to March, sales of unmounted bearings, variable speed drives, positioning systems/linear motion products, clutches and brakes, and shaft couplings increased. Sales of mounted bearings, standard industrial motors, gear products, and mechanical drive systems and other PT products decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers grew 14.3% as compared to 2004. April orders decreased 2.1% over March and increased 10.2% as compared to April 2004. Annualized sales to inventory ratio in April was 10.0, compared to 9.5 in 2004.

For April, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers fell from 5.7 in March to 5.5 on a 10-point scale.
