Ottawa, ON — Employment edged up by an estimated 25,000 in June 2004, the third consecutive monthly increase, according to Statistics Canada’s latest Labour Force Survey.

Despite a pause during the first quarter of the year, the increase in June brings job gains since August 2003, when the recent upward trend began, to 316,000 (+2.0%).

The unemployment rate rose slightly in June, up 0.1 percentage points to 7.3%, the result of an increase in the number of people in search of work.
