Hamilton, ON — Dofasco announced a five-year program to enhance the Finishing Division of the company’s Hamilton manufacturing operations to leading global standards, through a significant revamp over the next five years.
When complete, the Finishing Division Improvement Program will enhance product quality and mix, reduce costs and improve customer service.
The total cost of the program is expected to be about $700 million, of which $384 million has been approved by the board of directors for the first and most significant phase of the program. Expenditures in 2003 are expected to be approximately $140 million.

Product lines include hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized, Extragal, Galvalume and tinplate flat rolled steels, as well as tubular products, laser welded blanks and Zyplex, a proprietary laminate. Dofasco’s wide range of steel products is sold to customers in the automotive, construction, energy, manufacturing, pipe and tube, appliance, packaging and steel distribution industries.
