Scarborough, ON — Aug. 9, 2002 — A new handbook for the paper industry, Rolling Bearings in Paper Machines, has been developed by SKF to help paper machine designers select bearings optimized for their applications and to help specialists in paper mills maximize bearing life through proper mounting, maintenance and lubrication procedures.

This publication replaces SKF’s previous paper machine handbooks and considers important developments in the paper industry as well as within SKF. It contains information on recent solutions like CARB and NoWear as well as SKF’s latest thinking on issues like smearing, lubrication and service philosophies.

The 200-page hardback publication includes information on general requirements and recommendations for bearings in paper machines, selecting bearings, housings and journals, high-speed paper machines, etc. Also included is detailed information with drawings and recommendations on the various applications in a paper machine: the forming, press, and dryer sections as well as calenders and reelers. Lubrication: advice and paper machine application examples, plus maintenance: service philosophies, rebuilding to CARB, bearing mounting/dismounting, condition monitoring, standstill precautions, storage and transport of bearings, failure modes, and avoiding surface damage, also are included.

The handbook is currently available in English and can be ordered from a local SKF Canada sales unit.
