Ottawa — July 31, 2002 — Hydro Ottawa Limited, the electricity distribution company for Canada’s national capital, has selected J.D. Edwards of Houston, Texas, to integrate operations of five amalgamated utilities. Starting in early 2003, the utility will also use J.D. Edwards Enterprise Asset Management to reduce maintenance expenses, track performance and improve return on investment.
Hydro Ottawa, the second largest local electricity distribution company in Ontario, chose J.D. Edwards collaborative enterprise software in the second quarter of fiscal 2002 to reduce operating costs and consolidate its business processes on one IT platform.
“With the amalgamation of five companies, we inherited a mix of technologies and business philosophies. We needed to find a truly integrated solution that we could leverage throughout the combined business to achieve improvements in critical areas of performance, quality, service, and cost,” said Sergio Dinis, Hydro Ottawa’s chief information officer.

Speed of implementation was also a key factor in the decision. Hydro Ottawa will implement J.D. Edwards OneWorld Financials and Workforce Management applications. The system is expected to be up and running in the fall.
